The Indiana Forest Alliance is conducting Ecoblitz surveys to document the species present in our public forests.

Sunday May 19  

This Sunday Jeff Stant will lead a general bird survey this Sunday.  We will meet at the   Combs Creek Farm at 11275 N. County Rd 1140 W.  This is about 1.5-2.0 miles north of "Maumee" (a town that no longer exists). You will see Jeff's GMC truck and a walking bridge over Combs Creek. Drive through the Creek and turn to the right to park by the picnic table.   The survey will extend from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm.  Please contact IFA (rae@indianaforestalliance.org) if you can help.  

 WHAT TO WEAR & BRING

Please wear sturdy hiking boots and bring insect repellent to ward off ticks  Rain gear is helpful, especially if the vegetation is wet.  Long pants are advisable given the greenbriar on slopes and ridges. Bring plenty of water and snacks. The area has timber rattlesnakes and copperheads so gaiters or high-topped boots may also be advisable. Be alert and look before you leap (i.e. watch where you place your feet).  

We will provide sack lunches.  So please let us know if you are coming to allow us to make enough lunches.  And give your dietary preferences (vegetarian, gluten free, etc). We can only provide a lunch if you let us know you are coming!

 A couple of maps are attached. IFA has also created a GoogleMap of Combs Creek EcoBlitz Area. Another tool that IFA like is an app called TopoMaps from USGS. You may want to download the app plus the detailed maps for this area while you are still connected to wifi.  They are very helpful for navigating in the woods.  Note there is no wifi at this location and cell phone reception is very spotty.
