Great Backyard Bird Count
The Great Backyard Bird Count is a nationwide Citizen Science opportunity hosted each February by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Everyone can participate by watching birds from their homes or other favorite spots for 15 minutes (or as much more as they wish) on one or more of the count’s four days. Participants use a free application, EBird, to report their results to scientists who study the pooled data to understand bird populations before spring migration begins.
Sassafras Audubon Society uses the GBBC to promote knowledge and appreciation of birds among school-age children. We supply bird feeders, bird seed, and training for teachers and students in our eight-county region. Do you know a teacher who might be interested in participating? Please contact us at sas@sassafrasaudubon.org.
