Indoor Cats

Did you know that domestic and feral cats kill over two billion birds in the United States annually?  After habitat loss, cats are the number one threat to our native birds and pose a significant threat to our small mammal, reptile and amphibian species.  Domestic cats can make wonderful pets. But when allowed to roam outdoors, these introduced predators have serious consequences.

Sassafras Audubon Society urges all cat owners to keep their cats indoors as a simple way to keep their friends safe while protecting birds and other wildlife.  If you must let your cat roam outdoors, consider adding a bell to its collar to increase the chance of a bird or small animal hearing it before it becomes the cat's prey.
