Marsh Madness

Marsh Madness is a community-based event at the peak of late winter Sandhill Crane migration through the approximately 9000-acre Fish and Wildlife Area in Greene County, Indiana.

The festival offers a variety of fun and educational activities that are appropriate for the whole family and will be enjoyable for birders of all experience levels. The program includes a kick-off banquet, craft fair, live birds of prey, educational presentations, bus tours, self-guided tours, kid activities, and much more.

SAS has partnered with the Friends of Goose Pond, the International Crane Foundation, and the Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area since the inaugural Marsh Madness Festival in 2010. In addition to financial sponsorship, SAS members have served as volunteers staffing stops along the tour route where they help visitors to find and identify birds.

If you’ve never been to Goose Pond and find its size and layout intimidating, come to the Marsh Madness Festival for a welcoming, guided tour!
