Extra Outing - HNF Houston South

This outing will be located in sections of the Hoosier National Forest where the proposed Houston South timber management project lies. We will make several stops and with short excursions to see areas where various types of timber management actions are proposed. These sections lie on the east and west side of the South Fork of Salt Creek just north of Kurtz and Norman on Rt 58. Notice that we will meet at Paynetown SRA Offices on SR446, and will leave promptly at 9:30am, reaching Kurtz at around 10am.

Total distance will be less than four miles and encompass approximately three hours. With travel time from the DNR office in Paynetown the outing should require just less than five hours. Members from Brown Co may elect to travel via Rt 135 and meet near Kurtz. Details and maps to follow for those who sign up in advance, but figure a mid day hike including packing a lite lunch. Please indicate if you will be carpooling from Paynetown or meeting near Kurtz when you sign up by sending an email to sas@sassafrasaudubon.org.
